About This Portfolio

Most of us see the street every day – on the way to work, to the
store, to school. Yet how much do we really see? In partnership with my
camera, I have been gathering evidence of what is there on a particular
day in a particular place when I aim my camera down. I see only
potential: a texture, a color field. Yet, because photography is a magical
art, they come out of my printer transformed.

My work as a painter and photographer is about enlarging bits of
the landscape of daily life until they cross the edge into abstraction.
I start with shards or bed sheets or garbage that say “Look at me!
I am more than you think. I am evidence of the particular nature of
concrete and cloth, of the transformation of light, of countless wads of
gum mashed into the sidewalk by countless pairs of feet.”
